We had another successful Frostfest event. Thanks to everyone that helped out with the show and also thanks to the vendors and attendees for coming to the show. We look forward to another great show next year!
This month’s meeting will be held Friday February 19, 2016 at 7:30 PM at our usual location. We will have a recap of Frostfest and we also will have Sheila Blackley, K4WNW, give a presentation about the trip that she took with her husband, WD4LBR, to the W4DXCC convention in Tennessee. Sheila is currently President of DDXG.
Also, the Richmond Amateur Radio Club is organizing a special event station commemorating 100 years of Amateur radio in the Richmond Area. They are looking for volunteers to operate this special event station. You will be able to operate from your own home station, using your own operating privileges – but you will be operating as W4ZA for your allotted time. If you are interested, let us know at the meeting this month and we will forward your information to RARC.
Frostfest 2016 is almost here. The big day is Saturday February 6. If you purchased tickets online (Early bird) then the doors open for you at 8:00 AM. If you get your tickets at the event, ticket sales begin at 8:30 AM.
There is no program this month. We will have a short business meeting followed by food and fellowship. Several people have asked if they need to bring any food. The answer is NO, you don’t need to. RATS will be providing party platters with finger foods and assorted “appetizer like” foods and drinks. However if you would like to bring something, we won’t turn it down.
The November 2015 RATS membership meeting will be held on Friday November 20, 2015 at 7:30 PM at our usual location. The presentation this month will be on Remote Operating presented by Jim Bates, K80I. Jim will demonstrate how to operate a radio over the internet.
If you haven’t renewed your membership, there’s still time. You can renew online, or renew in person at a membership meeting.
The October 2015 RATS membership meeting will be on Friday, October 16 at our usual location. For the presentation this month, Jeff Davis, K4BXX, will give an overview of amateur radio computer programs available for the Linux operating system.
Planning for Frostfest 2016 is well underway and we will have a brief update of what the Frostfest committee has been up to lately. Also, please consider donating some of your time or expertise for Frostfest – we can always use help.
The RATS Board of Directors has shuffled around a bit. Peter Martin, who was a Director, has accepted the job of Treasurer. Steve Crow (KG4PEQ) and Jeff Davis (K4BXX) volunteered to fill the two vacant director slots and they were appointed to those positions at the October Board meeting.
We are saddened to report that the Richmond Amateur community has lost another member this week. Joseph G. Murphy (known to all of us as Tray), N4PAT, passed away on Wednesday September 2, 2015.
Tray has been a huge contributor to the local amateur community. He is the main reason Frostfest has been so successful, was an active Board member at RATS, and taught classes for the RARC school. Tray will be missed greatly.
