RATS had hoped to participate in the Virginia QSO Party as a group, in-person, somewhere in the Richmond area. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a location and get this activity planned far enough in advance. We will not be setting up a station anywhere, but you can still participate in the VA QSO Party from home and contribute to a collective club score. Refer to the official VA QSO Party website and rules for more information.
RATS needs an Activities Committee, or at least someone who can take the lead planning, organizing, and executing occasional in-person activities. For years, the Board of Directors has handled these tasks, to varying degrees of success. Your Board's primary responsibility is the business end of RATS. The Board's bandwidth is maxed out with other administrative needs. Members who want to get together and actually do stuff as a group need to take on some of the work, or else we'll be stuck with just our two annual Field Day events. Members, this is entirely in your hands: maintain the status quo, or volunteer to lend a hand.
There are tons of fun on-air activities, contests, and educational opportunities the club can offer as group activities. Fox hunts, antenna-building workshops, satellite demonstrations, and hands-on programs for new hams are all things we keep talking about wanting to do, but they will never happen as long as the membership remains unengaged. Want to help? Email board@rats.net. Our future is up to you.
See you in June?
