One Great Network, Many Ways to Connect
RATS is pleased to offer two repeaters with access to the NC VA Fusion System, a rapidly growing regional network of mainly Yaesu C4FM (Fusion) repeaters from Virginia to South Carolina. The system has its roots in Fusion but there are several ways to connect including DMR, NXDN, P25, and YSF.
When you transmit using any of these methods, your conversation is coming out of all linked repeaters. Use good linked system operating practices: transmit for 1-2 seconds before speaking to allow all repeaters to go on the air, leave extra gaps between transmissions so other stations can join the discussion, and take occasional breaks during longer conversations to allow others to use the system. The RATS Repeater Rules apply to all users who utilize a RATS repeater for access to this or any other linked system, regardless of what's coming from the other end.

Our 442.55 MHz dual-mode repeater maintains a nearly full-time link to NC VA Fusion.
Sundays from 11 AM to 5 PM: Analog (FM) users have priority and the link to NC VA Fusion will be automatically dropped. NC VA Fusion can be re-linked by connecting to node 68425 if the analog portion of our repeater is idle. A 5-minute activity timeout applies during this period. Please disconnect when you are finished with your QSO.
All other times: Digital (C4FM) users have priority and the default repeater connection is NC VA Fusion. If there is no local participation in an NC VA Fusion QSO, users are welcome to connect the repeater elsewhere. The repeater will automatically reconnect to NC VA Fusion after 5 minutes of inactivity (15 minutes overnight)
NC VA Fusion is also available to over the YSF network, reflector 80822.
C4FM radio owners are encouraged to register for a DMR ID from RadioID.net, even if they don't have DMR equipment. Otherwise, transmissions from the C4FM network will appear on DMR users' radios as originating from a generic radio ID 311095.

Our 443.5875 MHz DMR repeater offers NC VA Fusion as dynamic (PTT-activated) talkgroup 311095 on timeslot 1. This is an experimental service which may be discontinued at any time.
Dynamic talkgroups can only be heard when they have been activated by a user. To activate a talkgroup, simply kerchunk the repeater: hold the PTT button just long enough to get a talk permit tone from your radio, usually under a second. The repeater will link to the talkgroup, but you won't hear any transmission already in progress. Wait a moment before transmitting again ensure the channel is idle.
The repeater will drop the link automatically if there is no activity from our end of the link for 15 minutes, but users are expected to disconnect manually when finished by using Clear Timeslot.
NC VA Fusion is the second-busiest talkgroup available on the DMRVA network. It competes with Richmond Metro, two TAC channels, and the VA Regional talkgroups for airtime on timeslot 1. Users are mildly discouraged from linking to NC VA Fusion during the other weekly DMR nets and during the weekend broadcasts of ARRL Audio News and Amateur Radio Newsline, carried on NC VA Fusion Saturday and Sunday evenings from 8:00 until around 8:20 PM. Those programs can be heard on our C4FM repeater or its audio stream, or on the Brandmeister Hoseline.

NC VA Fusion can be reached from networked P25 and NXDN systems, where available, reflector 822 from either network.
